The Story behind the necklace...
I first suggested The Monkey Fist Knot to Costume Designer Gregg Barnes in 2011 when Aladdin was in development in Seattle. I saw it as a way to unite the four friends (Babkak, Omar, Aladdin and Kassim) and also pay tribute to the Abu the Monkey from the beloved animated film. Gregg loved the idea and the rest, as they say, is history. Every Aladdin to grace the stage has worn the Monkey Fist. At the urging of a very smart man, (Thank you, Chris) I’ve decided to make these available to Aladdin fans all over the world.
Hand made to Order.
After a year on Broadway I discovered that the original leather cord would not live up to the sweat and demands of an 8 show week schedule. I started making them out of a VERY durable waxed linen cord and that is what is now used worldwide. There is a faceted bead of rainbow jasper with colors that resemble the planet earth. A whole world of possibility hidden within a humble exterior.
